ExxonMobil

Azerbaijan is important to ExxonMobil in the Caspian region. ExxonMobil affiliates participate in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) megastructure development project and retain an interest in the offshore Araz-Alov-Sharg exploration lease, with the latter currently suspended due to an unresolved boundary dispute with Iran.

ExxonMobil has invested more than $US2 billion to date on various petroleum activities in Azerbaijan, including three ExxonMobil-operated exploration wells, ACG field development, seismic surveys, environmental impact assessments, and tax payments.

ExxonMobil and several other Operators funded the construction of the Qurtulush, a jack-up drilling rig capable of drilling in shallow water (up to 100 meters). We also helped to fund the construction of a new world-class semi-submersible drilling rig named after Heydar Aliyev. This rig is no longer under contract with ExxonMobil but remains the most modern drilling unit in the Caspian Sea, capable of operating in water depths of up to one kilometer and to drill depths of more than nine kilometers.

In Azerbaijan, ExxonMobil continues its worldwide tradition of being a good corporate citizen in the communities in which we operate. Our community support activities in Azerbaijan focus on educational projects and aid for refugees and internally displaced persons.
