The Uzeyir Hajibeyov Caspian Mugam Opera
The Uzeyir Hajibeyov Caspian Mugam Opera of Azeri Performing and Fine Artists of America, Inc., a non-profit corporation founded in the United States, is a tribute to the legacy of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the great Azeri composer, father of Azeri classical music and opera, creator of the first opera of the East, dramatist, liturgist, and supporter of Azeri women in music. The mission of the organization is to promote cross-cultural dialogue between the United States of America and the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan by developing an educational and performing arts program that will foster performing and educational opportunities for many American music students, and will promote, perform, educate, support, and elevate the recognition of the Azeri opera, mugam classical music, Azeri women in music, Azeri composers and performers, music scholars and students of Azeri music studies in cooperation with universities, museums, libraries, business corporations, and private patrons, government, embassies, performing art centers, and opera houses in the United States and around the world.
This organization was born as a part of the Independent and Research Project "Origin and Synthesis of Mugham" in support of the future Fulbright Scholarship Project, focusing on "the history of the distinctive futures of Azeri Opera and Women of Azerbaijan in Music" proposed by Master of Music in Opera Performance and Vocal Pedagogy, graduate student at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, NJ.
