Azerbaijani Carpets are showcased at the New York City Exhibition

New York City — The United States-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC), in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United States and “Azerkhalcha” OJSC, successfully held an exhibition at the iconic Turkish House in New York City, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan's carpet-weaving traditions. The event aimed to promote economic opportunities for rural women and establish international relations while showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of Azerbaijani carpets.

The exhibition, which featured a genuine collection of handmade carpets produced by Azerkhalcha, attracted over sixty patrons who marveled at the exquisite artistry and design of the carpets. Representing different weaving schools and sizes, visitors were treated to a diverse range of traditional and modern styles and colors. Particularly striking were the pastel-colored carpets designed specifically for contemporary interiors, combining heritage and innovation seamlessly.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was graced by speakers, including Natig Bakhishov, executive director of the USACC, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Khazar Ibrahim, and Consul-General of the Republic of Türkiye in New York City, H.E. Reyhan Özgür. Speakers highlighted the importance of preserving Azerbaijan's carpet-weaving traditions, the significance of promoting economic opportunities for rural women, and the commitment of Azerkhalcha to supporting the development and empowerment of women in the regions.

Azerkhalcha, known for providing the most jobs for women in the regions, remains dedicated to empowering rural women by offering employment and fostering their skills and qualifications. The organization conducts regular training sessions, enhances the expertise of weavers, and revives forgotten techniques through tailored training programs. By showcasing the work of Azerbaijani women who weave carpets, the exhibitions serve as a platform to celebrate their talents and promote their empowerment.

This exhibition is part of a larger initiative facilitated by the partnership between USACC and Azerkhalcha. The agreement signed earlier this year allowed the USACC to host a total of 76 carpets, which will be exhibited across the United States throughout 2023. All the displayed carpets are available for online sales at a dedicated Shopify e-commerce shop developed by the collaboration of the United States-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC) and the USAID-funded Private Sector Activity project to help rural Azerbaijani carpet weavers access the global marketplace. The website, in conjunction with the exhibitions, provides a unique opportunity for carpet enthusiasts to acquire authentic Azerbaijani carpets.
